The
Great Start Collaborative-Oakland Invites You to Join Their
Parent Coalition
Parent
engagement is an important factor in the success of a comprehensive
early childhood system. Parents are the decision-making
"consumer" of early childhood programs and services
and their input is necessary in shaping how early childhood
services are delivered to the community. Parents, guardians,
and others acting in the parenting role are encouraged to
participate and provide leadership in system development,
implementation, guidance, and evaluation. The Parent Coalition
was created as a forum where parents can participate in
the Great Start Collaborative-Oakland. Not only does the
Parent Coalition work with the Great Start Collaborative-Oakland
to help support their purpose, but we also offer opportunities
for parents to share information and participate in decision-making
processes related to early childhood services.
Why
should I join the Parent Coalition?
- If
you are looking for ways to increase your knowledge of
resources and services that could benefit children and
families or if you would like to network with other parents
and parent groups in Oakland County, you should join.
- If
you would like to build your leadership and advocacy skills
to help benefit young children, you should join. Parents
are leaders when they speak on behalf of their own children,
a group of children or when speaking out for all children.
Advocacy comes in all forms, not just involving change
in legislation.
- Our
meetings are fun! We fill them with teaching experiences,
problems to wrestle with, child and parent-friendly door
prizes, child care and meals. Throughout the year, our
meetings fall on different days at different times to
allow parents with various schedules to attend.
